Mohammed Shami's coach slams Indian skipper Virat Kohli and team management

Mohammed Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin Siddique criticised Indian skipper Virat Kohli and team management’s decision to not play him in the semi-final. Indian team decided to play Bhuveneshwar Kumar in their semi-final match against New Zealand.

“Stunned. How can you drop someone after he has picked 14 wickets for you in four games? What more do you expect out of your fast bowlers? I thought the rest in the Lanka game was an attempt to keep him fresh for the knockouts. Clearly, my assessment was wrong,” Badruddin was quoted as saying by the IANS.

Shami has taken 14 wickets from 4 matches and also has a hat-trick in the first game he played against Afghanistan. Mohammed Shami became the second Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in World Cup after Chetan Sharma in 1987.

India lost the toss against New Zealand and was asked to field first. Indian bowlers did a good job in restricting New Zealand to 211-5 in 46.1 overs before rain interrupted the match. New Zealand batsman played very slowly in the first 25 overs after they lost Martin Guptill quickly.

It is likely that the match will be abandoned today and will continue from the same stage tomorrow on reserve day.
