Mohammed Shami reveals what MS Dhoni said before his hat-trick ball

Mohammed Shami wrote history with his amazing bowling spell against Afghanistan yesterday. Shami became the second Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a World Cup match after Chetan Sharma in 1987. Mohammed Shami was asked to bowl the last over by skipper Virat Kohli. Shami had 16 runs to defend from 6 balls and the very first one was hit for a boundary by Mohammad Nabi.

Shami bowled the next ball for a dot as Nabi didn’t run for a single. The third ball of the over was of full length and Nabi tried to hit it at the long-on point but was caught by Hardik Pandya. Nabi the superstar went for 52 runs. Aftab Alam a right-handed batsman came in to bat and was sent back by Shami as he bowled a full-length delivery. Shami was two on two and the next wicket would have meant a hat-trick for him.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman came in to bat and before that MS Dhoni came and said something to Shami. Shami bowled the fifth delivery and Rahman was bowled hence the pacer got his first World Cup century and second for India. After the match, Shami revealed to the press what Dhoni told him before his hat-trick ball.

Shami said, “The plan was simple. To bowl a yorker and even Mahi bhai suggested that. He said, 'Don't change anything now as you have a great chance of getting a hat-trick. It's a rare opportunity and you need to do the same thing. So I did what exactly I was told.”

India defeated Afghanistan by 11 runs in a nail-biting thriller. Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the man of the match for his bowling figure of 2-39 in 10 overs.
