Meet Mumbai Indians' Alzarri Joseph, the cricketer who broke 11-year old IPL record on debut

Mumbai Indians cricketer Alzarri Joseph created history in his debut match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. Joseph broke a 11-year old record of Pakistan bowler Sohail Tanvir to register the new best bowling figure in the Indian Premier League.

Born on November 20, 1996, in Antigua, Joseph started playing cricket at a very young age. Joseph made his first-class debut for the Leewards in 2014-2015 regional four day competition. He took two back to back five wicket-haul in the domestic cricket in the following year.

Joseph made his international debut against India in a Test series that was played in West Indies. He made his debut on August 9 in the third match of the series. He made his one-day international debut against Pakistan in October 2016.

Alzarri came in as replacement of Adam Milne in the Indian Premier League. His debut for Mumbai Indians is arguably the best debut of any cricketer ever. His 6-12 bowling figure became the best bowling figure after Sohail Tanvir’s 6-14 in the inaugural season of IPL in 2008.

Alzarri have played 9 Test matches for West Indies and have 25 wickets under his belt. He has a bowling average of 32.84 in Test cricket and his best bowling figure his 3-53. In 16 ODI matches, Alzarri have 24 wickets at an average of 34.08 and have a five wicket-haul under his belt. 5-56 is his best bowling figure in ODIs.

On April 10, Alzarri Joseph will be seen in action as he and his team Mumbai Indians will play against Kings XI Punjab. Mumbai have already lost a match they played against Punjab in Mohali. Both the teams have played five matches so far and have six points to their name but Mumbai is at number four in the points table because of the net run rate.
