Mamata Banerjee's minister slams century against Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy
Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports in West Bengal and cricketer Manoj Tiwary knocked a century for his state in their second innings of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash against Jharkhand in Bengaluru.
Tiwary got to triple figures in 152 deliveries, smashing 14 boundaries and a six. He came to bat on Day 5 when Bengal were 129/4 in their second innings.
He and Abhishek Porel then added 72 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was out on 34 by Shahbaz Nadeem. Manoj Tiwari eventually got run out on 136 runs.
Earlier, Bengal, after being asked to bat first, put up huge first innings total of 773 for seven and declared. Sudip Kumar Gharami and Anustup Majumdar scored hundred, while seven other including Tiwari, had scored a half century each.
Abhishek Raman (61) and captain Abhimanyu Easwaran (65) had given Bengal team a flying start to the game by adding 132 runs for the first wicket.
However, Bengal team continued to dominate the game as Raman was involved in a massive 243-run stand with Majumdar, who was dismissed on 117 by Anukul Roy.
Gharami knocked a scintillating 186 to add more misery on Jharkhand side.
Following his dismissal, Manoj Tiwary, Abhishek Porel, Shahbaz Ahmed, Sayan Mondal, and Akash Deep all scored fifty to guide Bengal side to a massive total.
In response, Jharkhand were bundled out for just 298 with Virat Singh topping the scoring chart with an unbeaten 113-run knock.
