Jonty Rhodes reveals his top-five fielders and the No. 1 spot was grabbed by an Indian cricketer who is not in the squad
Former South African cricketer and one of the best fielder the game has ever seen, Jonty Rhodes in an interview to International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed his top five fielder in modern era cricket. Jonty picked Indian cricketer Suresh Raina as his number one fielder in the modern era cricket. Here’s the list of Jonty’s top five fielders.
At number five its Andrew Symonds from Australia, Rhodes feel that Symonds was good in fielding both inside and outside the circle. Rhodes also said that Andrew had a very strong arm which helped him take tight catches.
At number four he picked Herschelle Gibbs from South Africa, Rhodes said “As a contemporary, Gibbs was an incredible fielder and it was great to have him next to me at back off point.”
Rhodes feel that England cricketer Paul Collingwood be his pick at number three as he was an amazing fielder as well. “He is a fantastic cricketer, very similar what regards to me in a fielding in the same positions.”
At number two its AB de Villiers from South Africa. When Rhodes worked for the South African team as a fielding coach and every time de Villiers used to put the wicket-keeping gloves, the 49-year-old used to be very angry, he once said, “come on AB I need you in the field.”
At number one its Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. Rhodes is a massive fan of Suresh Raina, ever since he started playing. And the reason is, Raina never thinks before he dives, he doesn’t hesitate even while playing in so much heat. Raina follows Rhodes’ philosophy of ‘if you never go, you will never know.’
