Jasprit Bumrah scripts new milestone after going past 100 Test wickets

India’s pacer Jasprit Bumrah set a new record on Wednesday as he came to be the bowler with the fewest wickets overall when reaching the milestone of 100 wickets away from home in red ball cricket.

The 28-year-old got to the landmark during an excellent spell towards the end of Day 4 of the 1st Test between South Africa and India at the Super Sport Park in Centurion.

Bumrah came up with another notable spell of deadly fast bowling as he broke a stand for the 3rd wicket between South Africa skipper Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dusseen by dismissing the latter in the last 30 minutes of the day's play on Wednesday.

The pacer got the ball to tail into the right-hander who shouldered his arms only to see the ball hitting the off-stump.

Van der Dussen became Bumrah's 100th Test wicket in overseas conditions. Bumrah now has 105 wickets, out of which 101 have come away from home. The pacer, who made his Test debut in 2018 against South Africa has featured in 25 Tests.

Jasprit Bumrah scalped two late wickets on Day 4 to guide Team India to 6 wickets away from winning the Test opener in Centurion and taking a scarces series lead in South Africa where the men in blue have never won a Test series.

After dismissing van der Dussen, Bumrah bowled a yorker that knocked over Keshav Maharaj in the second last delivery of the day on Wednesday.

Bumrah set up Maharaj brilliantly by bowling length deliveries before coming up with the yorker that has troubled many cricketers. Maharaj was sent back to the pavilion for 8 as South Africa went to Stumps at 94/4, still needing 211 to bring off a record-breaking successful chase.
