Ishant Sharma breaks Kapil Dev's long-standing record in Test cricket
Indian pacer Ishant Sharma leapfrogged former Indian skipper Kapil Dev to become the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket outside Asia. Ishant Sharma took his 156th wicket when he dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite in the 47th over in the first innings of the second Test match against West Indies.
Kapil Dev had taken 155 wickets outside Asia from 45 Test matches. Third in the list is Zaheer Khan who took 147 wickets in 38 Tests while Mohammed Shami has 101 wickets outside Asia in 28 matches. Anil Kumble tops the list with 200 Test wickets outside Asia from just 50 matches.
Ishant Sharma also scored a half-century in the match which was his first international fifty. Ishant Sharma’s first international fifty came 12 years after his debut in 2007.
As far as the match is concerned, India is in commanding position as it asked West Indies to chase down 439 runs in the last innings which looks difficult for them. West Indies is currently 4 wickets down and need 323 runs to win the match. India is already leading the two-match series by 1-0.
