Along with this, Gambhir also accepted full responsibility for Delhi's performance. He also announced Shreyas Iyer as the next in line to succeed him. The 23-year-old then took up the job of leading the team and played his first match as the captain of the team.
Delhi defeated the guests KKR by a significant difference of 55 runs in which Shreyas Iyer played a quintessential role hitting a scintillating knock of 93 off just 40 balls.
Iyer slammed an unbeaten 93 off balls 40 balls, hitting fours sixes off Shivam Mavi, taking 29 runs in the last over to help Delhi Daredevils post the biggest total of the season of 219 for 4. While defending the huge total, Delhi bowled really well and restricted KKR at a score of 164 for 9 after 20 overs.
Shreyas Iyer had his first match being the captain of the Delhi Daredevils and he led his team to an unforgettable victory. He also hit a shot like Dhoni does, Iyer played a captain like inning and proved himself to be an able leader.
