Indian team to wear numbered jersey in Tests cricket, here's what will happen to jersey no. 7

For the first time in the history of Test cricket, teams will wear the numbered jersey during the play. The tradition will start from the first Ashes match that will be played from August 1 between Australia and England. The Indian cricket team that will tour to West Indies will also wear the numbered Test jersey during their two-match Test series.

India’s tour of West Indies will start from August 3 with a three-match T20I and ODI series followed by a two-match Test series. Since MS Dhoni has retired from Test cricket his jersey number 7 will be available but there is very little chance that any player will pick that number said a BCCI official.

“Virat is expected to wear 18 while Rohit wears 45. Most of the players will wear their respective ODI and T20 numbers. Since MS is no longer playing Test cricket, jersey No.7 is available but there is very little chance that any of the players will wear it,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey number 10 was unofficially retired after he retired from international cricket. Pacer Shardul Thakur wore it briefly and was heavily trolled on social media. There is a possibility that Dhoni’s number 7 jersey will not be worn as a mark of respect.
