Indian skipper Virat Kohli consolidates his top spot in ICC Test rankings
Indian run machine Virat Kohli consolidated his top spotin the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen, while Marnus Labuschagne ascended into the top five spot after his hundred in Australia’s first Test against New Zealand.
Steve Smith who was just five points behind the Indian skipper, fell further following the returns of 43 and 16 in the Perth Test but hung on in second spot. New Zealander Kane Williamson, who failed to make an impression during the WACA, and Cheteshwar Pujara also hung about in third and fourth spot respectively.
Labuchagne continued his impressive form, scoring 143 and 50 against New Zealand. His ton during the Perth Test was his third hundred in as many innings. He surpassed David Warner, who dropped two spots in the ranking.
Another cricketer who made a major leap in the ICC rankings is Pakistan’s Babar Azam. The batsman continued his impressive form in Australia with a hundred against the Island nation Sri Lanka on the final day of the first Test since 2009. His innings of 102 not out saw him rocket to fourth spots to the ninth spot.
The top-ranked T20 batsman advanced into the top 10 in Test rankings of the first time in his career.
