Imran Tahir breaks Omar Henry's oldest record

South African spinner Imran Tahir made history for proteas in the World Cup, with his selection for the tournament’s opening match against the host England at the Oval on Thursday. As he became the oldest South African player to feature in the World Cup match.

Earlier, this record was held by Omar Henry, who was 40 years and 39 days, when he was picked to start against Sri Lanka in Willington during the 1992 World Cup.

Henry scored 11 runs in 13 balls and recorded bowling figures of 10-0-31-1 as Sri Lanka defeated them by 3 wickets.

As of today, Tahir is 40 years and 64 days. To celebrate the record, Tahir opened the bowling for South Africa and dismissed Jonny Bairstow for zero with his second delivery of the match.

The record for the all time oldest player ever to feature in the World Cup match belongs to Nolan Clark of the Netherlands who was 47 years and 257 days, ironically, he played the match against the South Africans in Rawalpindi at the 1996 World Cup.
