Former South African cricketer blames domestic cricket system for three back to back defeats in the World Cup
After South Africa lost their third consecutive match in the World Cup 2019, former proteas Pat Symcox voiced that crucial changes have to be inplemented inorder to uplift the standard of domestic cricket in the country.
South Africa, who lost their first two games, to the host England and Bangladesh, have now recorded their worst start in the World Cup and their chances of going through to the knock out stage looks very dim.
"We can have a go at the team and the players, but they are probably the best we've got at the moment, and they're only products of the system," said Symcox.
"I have no confidence in the system or the production line any more and this can't be turned around by one or two players."
Pat Symcox admitted that injury to Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi had narrowed their chances in the World Cup.
He also asserted that South Africa’s batsmen had failed by putting up low score of 229 on the board after batting first.
"If your batters don't score enough runs it makes no difference who your bowlers are on flat pitches...you will lose to good teams," tweeted Symcox.
After a shabby preformance by South Africa against India former Proteas Dave Callaghan also expressed his disappointment and concern over the system.
“Let’s not put all the blame on the players,” he posted on Facebook.
"It's our system which is at fault. The players who took the field were the best available." he added
