ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2018: Indian team announced, Prithvi Shaw to lead team
The Indian team has been announced for the Under-19 World Cup to be held in New Zealand next year. The 15-member Indian squad for the tournament will be captioned by Prithvi Shaw, who is performing well in the Ranji Trophy.
In the Indian team, Punjab's Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have been selected. The names of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi from Rajasthan is also included. Bengal pacer Ishan Porel also got a place in the bowling department. Shubman will be vice-captain of Indian team.
Players including Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan, Anmolpreet Singh have not been selected for the tournament. A camp will be organized from December 8 to December 22 in Bengaluru for the players. Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Porel will join the camp later because of Ranji Trophy matches. Both have to represent their respective teams from Mumbai and Bengal for the quarter-finals.
Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar of Rising Pune Supergiant is in the list of stand-by. The other names that are included in this list are: Om Bhosle, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel, Aditya Thakare.
The first match of the Indian team will be against Australia on January 14, followed by Papua New Guinea on Jan 16 and India's team against Zimbabwe on 19 January. All the league matches of India will be played in the Bay Oval in Tauranga.
