Here's why Ravi Shastri displayed MS Dhoni's jersey from Nottingham balcony
India versus New Zealand match was called off after rain hit Nottingham. It was the fifth match that was affected by rain in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales. Indian fans were quite disappointed after they couldn’t see their favorite players in action.
The match officials inspected the pitch six times but the toss kept on being delayed as the field was not suitable to play. It did not rain yesterday but the outfield was wet as it was not covered the day before. Indian fans waited patiently for five hours until the match was abandoned.
But before the match was called off, Ravi Shastri came to the Trent Bridge balcony and displayed jersey no. 7. Jersey no. 7 belongs to former Indian captain MS Dhoni and the Indian coach’s action came after some fans started shouting ‘Dhoni-Dhoni’ from under the balcony of the Indian dressing room.
Dhoni has contributed with his bat in both the games as he made a crucial partnership with Rohit Sharma against South Africa when he scored 34 runs. Dhoni hit a quickfire 27 off 14 balls against Australia to accelerate the Indian innings.
India will face their arch-rival Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford, Manchester. India is currently sitting at number four on the points table.
