Here's why CSK player Faf du Plessis compared David Miller with MS Dhoni; see video

During the second ODI match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, Proteas stand-in wicket-keeper David Miller attempted a quick stumping off Imran Tahir’s ball and dislodged the bails after Vishwa Fernando missed a shot. After the quick dismissal, South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, who also plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League termed Miller as MS Dhoni.

The incident occurred in the 32nd over when South Africa’s regular wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock decided to walk off the field. Sensing an opportunity, David Miller decided to don the wicket-keeper gloves and pads. It took only four deliveries to make his presence felt.

Miller channelled his inner MS Dhoni to take the bails off when Vishwa Fernando failed to make any contact with the delivery. Replays later showed that Fernando had his foot planted in the crease all the time.

But while Miller failed to affect the stumping, he received a praise of highest order from his skipper Faf du Plessis. Upon seeing Miller’s glove-work, Du Plessis, who was standing at the first slip, decided to have some fun and called him ‘MS Dhoni.’

As far as the match is concerned, the host beat the visitors by 113 runs to go two nil up in the series. Batting first, the hosts were all out for 251 despite being 113 for 1 at one stage. De Kock top-scored for the home side with 94 while du Plessis also scored a fifty. For Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 3 for 26.

In reply, Sri Lanka never looked in contention to chase down the total. The visitors kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually all out for just 138.
