Here's what Sachin Tendulkar told Kane Williamson during presentation ceremony
“Your game was appreciated by all and you had a great World Cup,” said Sachin Tendulkar to Kane Williamson while presenting him the Player of the Tournament trophy after New Zealand succumbed to a thrilling defeat in the World Cup 2019 final.
On July 14th, the host England triumphed over New Zealand in an electrifying final on boundary count to secure their maiden World Cup trophy. On the other hand the black caps missed their chance of lifting the World Cup at the Lord’s because of their low boundary count after both the 50 overs and the Super Over ended in a draw.
During the post match presentation, Sachin Tendulkar did not mention anything about the misfortune, the Super Over or the boundary count rule which turned down Williamson the chance to have his hands on the coveted trophy.
Kane Williamson cumulated 578 runs in the primier event, the most by a skipper in a World Cup and Sachin Tendulkar said it was the calm attitude of the Kiwis skipper which was at the helm of his success.
"The best thing about Williamson is ability to stay calm. He doesn't lose his composure in any circumstance. It was unfortunate that he could not win the World Cup but it did not reflect on his face," Tendulkar told 100Mb.
The Indian cricket legend stated that Kane Williamson has a unique style of captaincy."Williamson sees the game from an entirely different perspective. His field placements, bowling changes while defending a low score are commendable. Even when (Ravindra) Jadeja was playing big shots in semi-final, he was calm and in the end, the result was in his favour."
Sachin Tendulkar also went on to name Williamson the captain of his favouite XI of the ICC World Cup 2019, which includes five Indians.
