Here's what Harbhajan Singh has to say about Shikhar Dhawan ahead of T20 clash against S Africa
The men in blue is all set for the second T20I against South Africa in Mohali. The series opener was washed out because of incessant rain and both the heavyweights will be looking to get things started in this encounter.
Team India too will be looking to build the side citing the T20 World Cup next year and opener Shikhar Dhawan will be in the centre of attention. Shikhar Dhawan’s T20 record this year has not been so impressive. Even during the series against the West Indies the opener coundn’t do much.
However, Harbhajan Singh feels that Shikhar Dhawan is one of the best opener for India in the limited overs cricket and is optimistic that the opener will come back soon.
Harbajan also stated that Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution is as crucial as the team’s captain and vice captain.
“Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are some of the finest batsmen that India has seen and have proven to be one of India’s best opening pairs. Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the game is as important as that of Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Times Now.
The opener has been India’s go to performer in the limited overs cricket and if not for his injury in the World Cup, he would have been definitely one of the highest run scorer. But when it comes to T20 cricket, Dhawan is struggling. But harbhajan is not worried about his form and believes that he should world on his fitness more.
“Be it T20 or 50 overs, irrespective of the format, Shikhar is really good. According to me, there is no better opener than Shikhar Dhawan, along with Rohit Sharma, in any format – T20 and 50 overs. If he continues working on his fitness in the coming 2-3 years, I think he will be unstoppable,”Harbhajan added.
On the basis thereof, Dhawan himself will be looking to score runs in the South Africa series and cease all the speculations of him being replaced.
