Shane Watson scored 117 runs off 57 balls that proved to be the deciding factor in Chennai's win in the IPL final yesterday. SRH came to bat first and put a score of 178 for the CSK. Chennai's start was very slow and the team could score only 20 runs in the first 5 overs of their batting. But they were able to save their wickets and Shane Watson took his time to read the bowling and the pitch before changing his gears.
Watson could not score a single run in one of Bhuvaneshwar's overs. It took Watson 11 balls scoring 1 run. However, in the later stages of the game, Shane Watson with Suresh Raina hit hard all the Hyderabad bowlers bar Rashid Khan and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Sandeep Sharma's 13th over of the match proved to be a deciding factor of the match. Shane Watson hit 3 consecutive sixes, scoring 27 runs in the over that changed the match completely in CSK's favour.
Sandeep bowled the first ball well but struggled in the next five bowlers and was punished adequately by Watson showing his destructive batting skills.
The first ball of the 13th went for a dot but Sandeep Sharma lost the control on his bowling thereafter and dealt with boundaries one after other.
Rashid Khan bowled well and did not let the CSK batsmen score more than 12 runs in his three overs. Suresh Raina and Watson built a 117 runs partnership for the second wicket. Carlos Braithwaite took the wicket of Suresh Raina when CSK were at 133. Thereafter came Ambati Rayudu to shoulder Watson and take Chennai to the victory.
