'Have s*x before match' former India coach regrets telling this to players
Former India mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton recently in his book ‘The Barefoot Coach’ revealed that his biggest professional error was to ask Indian players to have sex before the match. The current Rajasthan Royals’ coach in his book revealed that it was just a joke which was taken out of context in the media.
In his book, he wrote that ahead of 2009 Champions Trophy he prepared notes for the Indian players where he shared the information about the benefits of having sex before the match. In a chapter titled ‘Ego and my greatest professional error Paddy Upton wrote, “Does s*x increase performance? Yes, it does. So go ahead and indulge. Okay, so that’s the popular answer, the one that everyone wants to hear. I know that if I want to have this article quoted widely, I should leave it at that.”
Upton also mentioned that World Cup winning Indian coach Gary Kirsten was very upset about the incident. The media made a laughing stock out of him following which Upton apologised. The bond between the two became stronger after the incident.
Paddy also talked about S Sreesanth in his book. Paddy wrote that Sreesanth once abused him and former India cricketer and Rajasthan Royals batsman Rahul Dravid after he dropped from a match. Upton also started suspecting Sreesanth and two other players of some wrongdoing following which they were booked for spot-fixing.
