Gary Kirsten will help India win another World Cup, has applied for the Indian team head coach position

Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who coached the Indian men’s team to 2011 World Cup victory, has reportedly applied for the Indian women’s head coach position. This comes after BCCI didn’t extent current coach Ramesh Powar’s contract amid controversy with former captain Mithali Raj.

A major controversy broke out in between the Women’s World T20 this year where Harmanpreet Kaur led side was eliminated from the semi-finals, a match they lost against England in Guyana. The Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Kirsten’s application for the position. “Yes, Gary has applied for the job,” a board official quoted as saying by Times of India.

The former Protea have played 185 ODIs for South Africa between 1993 and 2004 and have scored 6,798 runs at an average of 40.95 with a best score of 188 not out. And in 101 Test he has scored 7,289 runs at an average of 45.27 with the highest score of 275 runs which he scored against England as a result of batting for over 14 and a half hours.
