Former cricketer Praveen Kumar allegedly beats up neighbour and his minor son

Former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar has been accused of thrashing his neighbour and jostling his 7-year-old son in TP Nagar on Saturday, said police.

SHO of TP Nagar police station, Dinesh Chand, stated that complaint has been received from both the parties and an inquiry was underway to confirm their accusations. “A case will be lodged on the basis of the findings,” he said.

The former cricketer’s neighbour Deepak Sharma alleged that Praveen, in an intoxicated state, beat him and shove his son. “I was waiting for my son at the bus stop at 3 pm on Saturday. Kumar came in his car and started abusing the bus driver first and later abused me. He was in an inebriated state. He thrashed me and pushed my son. I have fractured my hand.”

As per the neighbour, the bus driver had stopped the bus to drop his kid when Praveen arrived in his car. The neighbour stated that he started honking to get the bus out of his path. Reportedly, the former cricketer then got out of his car and objected against blocking of the road. Sharma and Praveen entered into a squabble, which culminated to jostling.

“I was an international cricketer. I have two kids -- a daughter and a son. I have never killed an ant then why would I beat a boy? The boy and his father Deepak Sharma, who is my neighbour, thrashed me up when I alighted from my car last evening (Saturday) near my home,” said Praveen.

After cutting in into the matter, superintendent of police Akhilesh Narayan stated, “Both of them are neighbours and they have informed the police about the incident. We are investigating the matter based on their statements. Further action will be taken accordingly. The medical procedure has also been done.”

Nevertheless, the neighbour claimed that the police denied to file his complaint and said to him to talk to the higher authorities as the case was associated with an international cricketer.
