Champions Trophy, Ind vs Pak: Hardik Pandya breaks Adam Gilchrist's record

The much-anticipated final match ended up in a huge disappointment for Indian fans as Pakistan demolished the men-in-blue and won the match by 180 runs at The Oval to lift their maiden Champions Trophy title.

Chasing a mammoth target of 339 runs, Indian batting order fell like a pack of cards and it was only all-rounder Hardik Pandya who tried to out-play the 'green shirts'.

Pandya's heroic inning of 76 runs was the only consolation prize for Indian fans. Pakistan sent six Indian players packing and even the prospects of crossing the 100-run mark looked bleak when Pandya began to hit the bowlers out of the boundary.

With his entertaining knock, Hardik Pandya broke the record of former Australian player Adam Gilchrist of slamming the fastest fifty in ICC event final. Pandya's half-century came in just 32 balls, while Australian great previously held this record with a 33 ball-half century.

Gilchrist's record was formed in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999.

Pakistan was put to bat in first by Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who won the toss and chose to field.
