CAA Unrest: Harbhajan Singh appeals for peace in wake of protests

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh on Thursday called for peace as a consequence of demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The protest that erupted in the state of Assam are now obtaining support from not just the ethnic Assamese but also from other communities.

"All I am saying is maintain the peace..this should stop it's not doing good for anyone.i am sure there is a other way to solve this issue rather then being violent.. it's a request to you all students and police and authorities," Harbhajan tweeted.

Demonstrations against the CAA resulted in heavy traffic muddle throughout Delhi during the morning peak hours on Thursday, while the Delhi-Gurgaon highway had a severe traffic congestion as vehicles aligned for as long as 10 kms on the expressway linking the two cities.

In view of violence during protests in defferent parts of the nation against the amended citizenship law, the central government issued prohibitory orders.

The bill seeks to give citizenship to minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Drawing attention to a photo of an injured student from Jamai Milia Islamia University, Harbhajan wrote, "His crime is that he is a human.. it's so sad to hear from him what he is gone thru..very sad for what's happening in delhi this needs to stop.”
