Banned for ball-tampering, Cameron Bancroft makes comeback by smashing back to back tons
Australian cricketer Cameron Bancroft who was banned for ball-tampering along with David Warner and Steve Smith makes his comeback by smashing back to back centuries. Cameron Bancroft is at his best in England’s List A cricket after he was appointed as captain of Durham county.
Bancroft made his county debut two days ago for Durham and smashed 151 runs. Bancroft continued his form as he scored an unbeaten 118 off 117 balls, which included 12 boundaries and two sixes. Bancroft’s hundred helped Durham chase down the target of 234 runs.
Speaking after the match Bancroft’s team-mate James Franklin said, “Signing him, there was a lot of speculation. But I think he’s certainly put that to rest with his two performances. He’s been a leader of this team coming out, two match-winning hundreds. That’s what you want from your captain, to lead from the front, and he’s certainly done that the first two games.”
Bancroft was banned from playing international cricket after he was involved in the infamous sand paper scandal in South Africa. Bancroft pleaded guilty for tampering with the ball and was handed over a nine month ban. He announced his return by smashing two back to back fifties for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
Cameron Bancroft scored 402 runs from eight matches at an average of 30.92. Bancroft made his debut against England in 2017 and was banned in March 2018.
