Australian cricketer jailed for five years after raping a sleeping woman over Whatsapp game
Australian born England cricketer Alex Hepburn has been sentenced for five year jail term in charges of rape. Alex was found guilt of raping a sleeping woman in team-mate Joe Clarke’s bedroom over a ‘sexual conquest’ game.
The case has been going on since 2017 and initially Alex brushed off the charges claiming that he had consensual sex with the woman. But when the woman told the court that she thought she was having sex with his team-mate Joe Clarke with whom she had sex earlier that night. She had her eyes closed and realised after 20 minutes that he was Alex and not Joe after hearing his voice.
After multiple hearings the court ruled in favour of the woman and sentenced Alex Hepburn to five-year jail term. The judge in his sentence said, “I sentence you on the basis the jury were sure the victim was woken by you but was still barely awake and in the dark thought you were Joe Clarke.”
"You thought you were God's gift to women. You saw the victim as a piece of meat, not another human entitled to respect."
The cricketer played for Worcestershire County Cricket Club in England and made his debut in August 2015.
