Petrol-Diesel Price Today: Checkout fuel rates across major cities here

Fuel prices today remained unchanged across the country on the day. Petrol prices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore will remain stable on 17th March 2022 regardless of fuel prices remaining high.

Crude oil prices in the international market have in the past risen to over 100 dollar a barrel as key crude producers gave an assurance to plug the supply gap from the Russia-Ukraine war. Event then India’s fuel rates stayed constant. However, now there are speculations that the prices may go up.

In the national capital, petrol is at Rs 95.41 per litre while the diesel was Rs 86.67 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 109.98 a liter and diesel costs Rs 94.14 per litre.

In Chennai, a litre of petrol costs Rs 101.40. On Tuesday, the rate of a litre of diesel was Rs 91.43. In Kolkata petrol costs Rs 104.67 while diesel costs Rs 101.56 per litre.

In Delhi, fuel rates are much lower than the other major cities because the state government had earlier brought down the VAT on petrol, bringing down the price by around Rs 8 a litre.

Earlier, the petrol price in the national capital was more as compared to the NCR cities in UP and Haryana, where the state administration had announced a VAT cut after the Centre lowering the excise duty on fuel rates.

In the midst of speculations on a fuel price hike, petroleum ministry on Wednesday stated that India is ready to take all appropriate measures, as deemed fit, for lessening market volatility and calming the increase in crude prices.

“The geopolitical situation between Russia and Ukraine has resulted in a steep increase in global crude oil and gas prices. Government of India is closely monitoring global energy markets as well as potential energy supply disruptions as a fall-out of the evolving geopolitical situation," Union minister of state Rameshwar Teli said."

"“Government of India is ready to take all appropriate action, as deemed fit, for mitigating market volatility and calming the rise in crude oil prices," Teli added."

Crude oil futures increased in early trading on Thursday, recovering some of the prior day’s losses. Front-month Brent crude futures were up by around 66 cents, or 0.67 per cent, to $98.68 a barrel at 1222 GMT , while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was up 84 cents, or 0.86 per cent, to $95.86 a barrel.
