It's around after 50 years when another female finance minister of India after Indira Gandhi, Nirmala Sitharaman will present the union budget. Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget on 5th July 2019. Earlier around 49 years ago, the first female finance minister of India, Indira Gandhi presented the union budget on 28th February 1970.

Let's know what Indira Gandhi presented in the union budget of 1970-71:-

1. Cigarette duty raised to 22 per cent from 3.

Indira Gandhi raised Cigarette duty to 22 per cent from 3 and with that the price of 10 cigarettes raised to 1 to 2 paise.

2. Income tax relief raised to 40 thousand

She announced tax reduction to 40 thousand and planned to raise the total tax of the country to 3857 crores from 3587 crores.

3. Reduce the tax limit on gifts

She announced the limit on tax on gifts, earlier it was 10 thousand and later he announced the tax for 5 thousand also.

4. Government's contribution to EPF

Indira Gandhi also announced that the government will provide 8 per cent to EPF (Employee Provision Fund).

5. Urban Development Corporation

Indira Gandhi also announced Urban Development Corporation with a budget of 10 crores to develop the urban areas of India.

6. Raised the pension amount of central government employees

Indira Gandhi announced 40 rupees per month hike to central government employees in their every month. This was also for the employees who were already retired.
