There are potential thieves who usually keep an eye over your ATM pin and swipe off the card, ending you up with huge monetary loss. Recently, a message was being circulated on social media specially on Whatsapp that by pressing the cancel button twice before inserting the card you can save yourself from such fraud. If anyone has set up the key pad to steal your Pin code, this will cancel the set up.
The claims however are absolutely false. If you press the cancel button twice, nothing happens. There are however other common methods that captures your personal information and PINs. This includes installation of a false front on an ATM, skimmer, and lebanese loop.
Besides, installation of an overlay on top of the numeric ATM pad to capture PINs. The installation of hidden cameras to record user keystrokes (including the entry of PINs).
There are few safety tips that will help you. You should memorize your PIN number and don’t write it down and/or carry it in your wallet. You may cover the keypad when you enter your PIN to prevent it from being seen by onloookers or cameras. You should change your PIN regularly. Don’t choose your PIN based on personal information (such as date of birth or address)
