IRCTC takes a jibe at IndiGo, SpiceJet over free web check-ins controversy

In a recent development, low-cost airlines like IndiGo and SpiceJet have announced to charge fees for web check-ins according to their revised policy. Many people over the social media platform like Twitter crticised the move by the airlines. Even the Indian Railways couldn't resist and trolled the airlines in an indirect way through their social ad on Twitter.

“We believe in being as transparent with our customers as we can be! No hidden charges on any bookings made via IRCTC Air!” tweeted the official Twitter handle of IRCTC. The tweet comes after budget airlines IndiGo was slammed for introducing extra charges for web check-in for all seats. Though IndiGo clarified that there is no change in the web check-in practice and it is not compulsory to pay for the seats, the trolling has not stopped.

People showed resentment after a passenger raised issue over the charges. The airlines replied, “As per our revised policy, all seats will be chargeable for web check-in. Alternatively, you may check-in at the airport for free. Seats will be assigned as per the availability.” While people slammed IndiGo for the tweet, Indian railways did not let the opportunity pass and took a dig at the airlines.

Even the Indian government issued a statement to review the low cost airline's decision of charging for web check-ins. "We are reviewing these fees to see whether they fall within the unbundled pricing framework,” the aviation ministry said in a statement on Monday morning reported through their Twitter handle.
