Former IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh chooses OYO Hotels over Tata Sons, becomes CEO

In the wake to appoint top-notch leadership, OYO Hotels has picthed-in ex-President, IndiGo airlines, Aditya Ghosh. Ghosh, who received a proposal from Tata Sons to lead its planned acquisition of Jet Airways, chose to be the CEO of the hospitality startup OYO Hotels.

OYO, who recently raised USD 800 dollars from Softbank, appointed Ghosh to head its business in its largest markets – India and Nepal. His tenure at OYO will come into effect from December 1, 2018.

Ghosh to join OYO following an outstanding stint at IndiGo as president and wholetime director before resigning earlier in April this year.

A lawyer by education, Ghosh was with Delhi’s J Sagar Associates when he first came in contact with Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprise, which runs IndiGo. Ghosh later joined InterGlobe as general counsel and in May 2007 was inducted into IndiGo’s board of directors.

In August the following year, Ghosh, with no prior experience of running an airline or even a company, became the surprise choice as IndiGo’s second president, replacing the highly respected Bruce Ashby.

During the last five years, OYO Hotels and Homes has expanded its global footprints to over 500 cities in 7 countries, from Indonesia to the UK, with China and India as home markets. Its inventory boasts of over 12,000 franchised and leased hotels and over 330,000 rooms.
