Zoya Akhtar denies Gully Boy a biopic on rapper Divine, here's what 'Meri Gully Mein' rapper responded
Now it is been a day when the trailer of Zoya Akhtar's next film Gully Boy dropped at the internet platform and the trailer has got the most amazing reviews as well. The film stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the leading roles and it is slated to release on 14th February. The trailer has really excited the audience that was waiting for the film to come out.
Since the announcement of the film, there were the reports that the film is a biopic on Mumbai's street rappers Divine and Naezy. Even Divine has said several things about the film and told that it is his life-based film. However, now Zoya Akhtar clearly told that the film is not a biopic on anyone neither to Divine or Naezy.

Zoya Akhtar while responding to the question of biopic said, “It's inspired by them and their music and they worked with me on the film to make it authentic. They worked with me on the script. They were the people I talked to, they were the people who took me into their lives, showed me how it's done when it started there are a lot of things from their lives through the film but it's not an exact biopic because it's a fiction drama.”

Now when asked the same to Divine about his claim that Gully Boy is his biopic, Divine quoted as saying, “Zoya reached out to me in 2016 after seeing one of my gigs, and she wanted to turn this idea, the rise of gully hip-hop into a film. If it helped my message reach more people... I was on-board with that.”
