Tanhaji actor Saif Ali Khan gets trolled for saying ‘no concept of India till British gave it one’
Saif Ali Khan who is riding high on the success of his recently released film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior also starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol gets trolled for his statement on India’s existence. The actor who will be seen in theatres on 7th February once again in an interview said, “I don't think there was a concept of India till the British gave it one.”
In the recent interview video that is doing rounds on the social media platforms, Saif was asked about his stand on the politics of the film to which he said that he doesn't think that Tanhaji is history. "For some reason, I didn’t take a stand. Maybe next time I would.”
When asked what made him take up Udaybhan Singh Rathore’s role he said, “I was very excited to play the role because it’s a delicious role. But when people say this is history, I don’t think this is history. I am quite aware of what the history was. I don’t think there was a concept of India till perhaps the British gave it one. I don’t think there is really any constructive point in arguing about loudly, provided you yourself know why you’re doing it.”
As soon as this video released it took the internet at ablaze leaving all the netizens furious. They immediately took to their Twitter handle and started slamming the actor for not knowing the history and calls himself “history buff.” The popular fraternity also came out to slam the actor and among them are Tarek Fatah and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri.
Tarek wrote, “Bollywood ‘history buff’ #SaifAliKhan claims “there was no concept of ‘India’ until the British came.”Yeah right. French East India Company was about China & Vasco D’Gama went to Fiji.”
Another user wrote, “According to Eminent Historian Saif Ali Khan, #Tanhaji wasn’t historically correct and there was no concept of India until British came. Know your Shivaji, know Chanakya and you would know how old India is”

The film helmed by Om Raut has collected 150 crores so far and on the second weekend, the film is expected to cross 200 crore mark. Ajay was seen portraying the role Tanhaji Malusare, Kajol as Savitribai Malusare and Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
