SC moved for stay on release of 'Indu Sarkar'

A woman claiming to be the daughter of late Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking stay of the release of filmmaker madhu Bhandarkar's "Indu Sarkar".

"You give your memo. We will see to it. We are not giving any date," said the bench of Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Amitava Roy and Justice A.M.Khanwilkar as counsel for the petitioner Priya Singh Paul mentioned the matter for an early hearing as the film is releasing on July 28.

Paul told the court that the film was "full of concoction and totally derogatory" to malign the image of Sanjay Gandhi and his mother, late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The petitioner has moved the top court as Bombay High Court had dismissed her plea on July 24, noting: "The filmmaker has submitted a disclaimer that will be shown before the movie saying all characters and incidents of the movie are fictitious and bears no resemblance to any living or dead person. The censor board has also already granted certificate to the movie after initially asking the filmmaker to cut some scenes."

The High Court had also said that none of the descendants of Sanjay Gandhi have objected to the film.
