Punjab Govt mulling to establish big film city in state
The Punjab Government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is considering the establishment of a large film city in the state.
State Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who is in Mumbai, urged major film studios in Mumbai to establish their studios in Punjab. CM Mann also emphasized that he wants to connect Punjabi cinema with Bollywood.
“We are planning to establish a big film city in Punjab. I will request film studios in Mumbai to establish their studios in Punjab also. I am here to connect the Punjabi cinema industry and Bollywood,” said CM Bhagwant Mann.
The Punjab Chief Minister is in Mumbai visit to meet and invite businessmen to Invest Punjab Convention that is schedule to be held in February.
The Punjab Government is mulling to promote industrialisation in the state on a large scale in order to generate employment opportunities for the youths, while also boosting development in the state.
This move follows a similar announcement by the Uttar Pradesh Government two years ago, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to build the biggest film city in Noida. Recently, CM Yogi announced an invitation for global bids for the development of a project in the vicinity of Noida.
Earlier this month, the UP CM was also on a 2-day visit to Mumbai and had a meeting with Bollywood actors, directors and producers in order to discuss about the film city project. The meeting was attended by prominent film personalities like Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff among others. During the meeting Suniel Shetty also raised #boycottbollywood controversy against Bollywood and urged the UP Chief Minister to look into the matter.
