1- Will burst firecrackers as traditions are important as environment: MP CM

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced that he will burst firecrackers on Diwali because traditions are as important as the environment.

Speaking to media here, Chouhan said, "Crackers alone don't contribute to pollution. We will light earthen lamps and also burst a few crackers. Environment is important but so are traditions. We will celebrate Diwali traditionally".

The Supreme Court had on October 9 imposed a blanket ban on sale of firecrackers in the Delhi-NCR in the run-up of Diwali to check the alarming pollution level.

United States President Donald Trump celebrated the Hindu festival of lights- Diwali at the White House with Indian Americans on Tuesday.

Trump lit the ceremonial lamp on the occasion and wished everyone happy Diwali.

Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Federal Communications Commission chairman Ajit Pai; Vanila Singh, chief medical officer in the office of the assistant secretary of health at the Department of Health and Human Services; and other Indian American members of the Trump administration were present during the celebration.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has said that Pakistan will sign up for the ICC Test and ODI leagues only if India honour Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to play bilateral matches.

The ICC Board meeting in Auckland last week gave nod to a nine-team Test league over a period of two years starting at the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup, with each team playing six series on a home-and-away basis, culminating in a World Test League Championship final.
