Nawazuddin Siddiqui takes tips from Piyush Mishra
Nawaz sorts help from his senior at NSD Piryush Mishra for Mom
Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays an important part in Sridevi’s Mom. He has got a different look and typical north Indian dialect in the film. So to get into the skin of his character he approached actor-lyricist, Piyush Mishra. Piyush was Siddiqui’s senior at the National School of Drama.
The 43-year-old realised there was scope for improvement before shooting for the movie. He immediately thought of Mishra and used him as a reference to deliver the strong North-Indian accent required of him.
Nawazuddin says, “When I was shooting for the movie in Delhi on the first day, after I was done with the makeup and getting ready for the shot, I suddenly thought about Piyush Mishra. I knew my character had to have a heavy north Indian accent, so I thought I could imitate him to see if it works. Surprisingly, when I started imitating him, it went well with the look and the character. I know him in real life, and meet him often. I also worked with him in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), so I have observed his work. He is multi-talented and inspires me as an actor. In fact, we would all copy him when I was studying at the National School of Drama.”
