Kargil Vijay Divas: 7 Bollywood movies that were based on Indo-Pak war

Our patriotism which gets suppressed due to our day to day struggles comes alive either during an Indo-Pak cricket match or during an Indo-Pak war movie. When Bollywood filmmakers combine the emotion of patriotism and present to us on the silver screen they become epic films.

Out of many war movies that have been released so far on India Pakistan battle we have listed 7 of them here.

1. LOC Kargil (2003)

The movie was directed and produced by JP Dutta and had probably the biggest ever star cast till date. The movie based on the recent Indo-Pak Kargil war in 1999 where intruders got into Indian occupied territory 

2. Hindustan Ki Kasam (1973)

The movie was directed by Chetan Anand and the cast included Chetan Anand, Vijay Anand, Raaj Kumar, Priya Rajvansh, Balraj Sahni, Padma Khanna, Amjad Khan and Amrish Puri. The movie was based on Operation Cactus Lilly in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. 

3. Aakraman (1975)

The film was produced by Jagdish Kumar and directed by J. Om Prakash and featured Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha, Rakesh Roshan, Farida Jalal, Sujit Kumar, Asrani, Keshto Mukherjee, Mumtaz Shanti and Rajesh Khanna. ‘Aakraman’ was based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

4. Border (1997)

The multi-starrer film was written and directed by J.P. Dutta and had Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raakhee and Sharbani Mukherjee. the film was a dramatized version of the Indo-Pak War of Longewala fought in Rajasthan (Western Theatre) in 1971.  

5. Maa Tujhhe Salaam (2002)

The movie's director was Tinu Verma and starred Sunny Deol, Tabu, Tinnu Verma and Arbaaz Khan. This film which portrayed the proxy war between India and Pakistan had Kashmir as the objective.

6. Lakshya (2004)

The movie was written by Javed Akhtar and directed by Farhan Akhtar and had Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Sharad Kapoor, Aditya Srivastava, Om Puri and Boman Irani. Hrithik Roshan plays the role of Lieutenant (later Acting Captain) Karan Shergill, who leads his team to victory over the Pakistani troops by capturing the Tiger Hill.

7. Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo (2004)

The director of the film was Anil Sharma and the film had a big star cast which included Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Bobby Deol (in a dual role), Divya Khosla Kumar, Sandali Sinha and Nagma. The film starts with the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war and cut to current times where the proxy war with Pakistan continues.
