From Mr. Bachchan to Salman Khan, things can only get better for me: Angad Bedi

After his negative role in Pink and a cameo in Dear Zindagi, Angad Bedi will now be seen as a cricketer in a web-series, Inside Edge. The actor talks about his character, working with Richa Chadha and Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai.

Tell us something about your character in Inside edge?
I play a complex character. His name is Arvind Vashishth, captain of an (Indian Cricket) team. He is passionate about cricket. He is a man of action with a controlled personality. There’s a lot of turmoil in his personal life yet he doesn’t show that on the field. He loves his teammates and expects them to perform well. His equation with the team owner (Richa Chadda) is pretty up and down.

Is your character based on any Indian cricketer?
No, not at all. It’s a fictional character and it has been written well by Karan Anshuman (the writer/director of the show).

What preparation did you do to play this character?
I had to get back to playing cricket. I had to practise a lot. I had to change myself from an actor's physique to a cricketer's physique. I had to change my mindset to believe that I am a sportsman and carry myself accordingly. Usually, I train in the gym but I had to run a lot and do some on ground training.

Pink, dear Zindagi and now a web-series...how discerning are you about choosing the projects?
I don’t come from a film background. So, I’ll have to choose my projects really wisely. I want to do performance-oriented stuff and I think I am just lucky enough. After Pink people have really noticed my work and hopefully with Inside Edge people shall notice more.

How was it working with Richa Chadha?
She is a great co-star. We both are from Delhi so we speak the same language. We understand each other and have had most of our scenes together. She has an ability to get the best out of her co-actors and I really respect that.

Heard that initially, it was difficult for both of you to get along...
Not difficult...but, since we didn’t know each other it took some time. We met on the first day of the shoot and then we had to straight away shoot for the ninth episode. Technically it was the climax so the graph had to change. For that, we had to sit together to understand the script well. I just hope that now everything falls into place.

You are also working on a documentary based on your father…
Yes, I am. We are putting the material together but it’s in a very premature stage. The work has started but it’s going to take some time. Right now, I am busy shooting another feature film (Tiger Zinda Hai) which will finish by the end of September post which I’ll continue the work on this film again.

Heard that you will be directing the documentary, is it true?
No, it's not. I am not directing the documentary. I just have given some great inputs. We will find somebody to direct it who understands sports as well as entertainment.

How was it working with Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai?
Working with him is a phenomenal experience. He is a great individual and a very caring and a sensitive man. He wants his co-stars to do well and I really appreciate that. Working with Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan to now with Salman, it is an honour for me.

What was your reaction when you were offered TZH?
Ali Abbas sir saw my work in Pink and he offered me Tiger (Zinda Hai).

Will you host the screening of Inside Edge for Salman?
God willing, I will show him a few episodes for sure. We are together in Morocco and Abu Dhabi for a long schedule so will definitely watch with him.
