Baahubali 2 box-office prediction: SS Rajamouli’s next likely to have a historic opening!
The buzz around Baahubali 2 is on all time high as several distributors are describing the release of this epic drama as one of the biggest cinematic moment in the modern era of Indian cinema. There is an unprecedented demand amongst the audiences for this SS Rajamouli directorial and the same has resulted in cinema owners down South scheduling the first show of the film as early as 6 am.
The movie is set to get the widest worldwide release of all time and is expected to create records which might not be challenged in the near future. While the first instalment released as an underdog in Hindi market, the distributors are going all out by blocking over 3500 screens for Hindi dubbed version of film, which is going to be the highest of 2017 so far.
In 2015, Baahubali: The Beginning (Telugu + Tamil + Malayalam + Hindi) created a big opening day record by collection approximately Rs 50 crore (Gross). With the second instalment, the collections are expected to multiply further and given the excitement amongst the audiences, we are expecting an earth-shattering opening day above Rs 80 crore.
The current record holder for highest opening day (Gross) of all time is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which collected approximately Rs 55 crore followed by Rajinikanth’s Kabali which raked in Rs 53 crore. In terms of highest collection on a single day, it is Aamir Khan’s Dangal that raked in approximately Rs 59 crore (Gross) on its third day i.e. Sunday.
Baahubali: The Conclusion (Telugu + Tamil + Malayalam + Hindi) will shatter both the records with ease upon its release this Friday.
While the contribution from Hindi version in the first part was merely Rs 4.75 crore, we predict an opening day in the range of Rs 23 to 27 crore from Baahubali: The Conclusion in Hindi, that too on a non-holiday.
Opening Day Prediction:
- 23 to 27 crore: Hindi
- 78 to 84 crore: All languages
Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Satyaraj in lead, Baahubali: The Conclusion is the second instalment of the successful Baahubali franchise. The film will give an answer to the national question, ‘why did Kattapa kill Baahubali’
Note: In South there is negligible entertainment tax which results in higher income for the producers and distributors. In Bollywood, the average entertainment tax charged is 35% which results in comparatively lower revenue for the producers. While the collections declared down south are often Gross collections, Bollywood film producers declare the Nett collections which is arrived at after deducting the entertainment tax.
To make apple to apple comparison, we have taken in account the Gross collections of Hindi as well as Regional films.
But what do you mean by gross collections? Let’s explain:
Gross Collections:
If you buy a ticket worth Rs 300, the entire amount you paid to buy the ticket goes into Gross collections. The ticket charges consist of admission fees (entry fees) and taxes (Entertainment Tax); both together are termed as gross collections.
Gross collections = Total ticket rate x Number of tickets sold!
