In an emotional video shared by Akshay Kumar on his social media accounts, titled, #DirectDilse, Alka Hiranandani shares how her father always asked her to take her brother along whenever she wants to go to late night parties during her teenage days. But the actor always refused to accompany her and would say, "Apna Dhyan Khud Rakhe" (You need to protect yourself) which used to make her mad at him. She further adds, 17 years ago her father passed away and she didn't realise how Akshay quietly took on his role. But he still insists that she should protect herself. it was much later that she realised the importance of his words. “I realised the value of his words when I sent my daughter to study abroad. When she asked me if ‘Everything will be okay,’ I replied, ‘Everything will be fine, just take care of your own safety’. This has been the greatest gift my brother has given to me and my daughter – The strength to be self-sufficient. Thank you, Raju. I love you. This Raksha Bandhan, do not protect your sister. Empower her.”
