Mumbai: 20-year-old sweeper steals whopping amount from businessman’s house
A 20-year-old sweeper has been arrested on Tuesday, for stealing money from a Mumbai-based businessman’s house on February 9.
According to the police, the businessman named Vinay Tripathi (32) kept a bag containing Rs 20 lakh on the dining table at his apartment in Jogeshwari locality on February 8, after coming back from his office. However, he forgot to take the bag with him to the office.
The accused sweeper was identified as Ajay Valmiki, came to his building to collect the household waste, he found that Tripathi’s home was not locked. Therefore, he entered Tripathi’s house and spotted the bag with Rs 20 lakh written on it, kept on the dining table, timesnownews.com reported.
He immediately kept the bag in his garbage sack and fled from the spot.

“Valmiki was seen leaving the building around noon that day though he usually stays back till 5 pm,” a report by The Times of India quoted Tripathi as saying.
Police nabbed sweeper
After police were alerted, efforts were being made to trace Valmiki. The cops tracked him down Haryana’s Sonepat, his hometown.
Subsequently, a police team was sent to Sonepat, and Valmiki was arrested. Police recovered a sum of Rs 19.05 from the sweeper, a police official said.
According to police, after stealing the money, Valmiki boarded a bus to Rajkot in Gujarat. From there, he went to his hometown, Haryana’s Sonepat, the officer told.
