In a shocking incident, a man set fire to a 50ft Christmas tree in front of Fox News headquarters in midtown Manhattan.
As per media reports, the tree was kept outside the News Corp building that houses Fox News, the New York Post, and The Wall Street Journal.
The tree was set ablaze after midnight, police said on Wednesday. Photos and videos from the location show how the fully decorated Christmas tree was going up in a flames.
However, Fox News host Shannon Bream decided to show his viewers what was happening outside the headquarters. He announced that the tree outside their TV station was ablaze and told the firefighters were working to douse it.
“This is the Fox Square in New York, outside of Fox headquarters,” Bream said. “It appears that our giant Christmas tree there, just a couple of minutes ago, was completely engulfed in flames.”
Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. But the man behind the act was charged with arson and other crimes for setting fire to a 50ft Christmas tree outside Fox News headquarters.
The man who was a 49-year-old homeless and mentally unstabled man, who was arrested on charges including criminal mischief, trespassing, and arson.
According to police, the man had a lighter, but it was unclear whether he had used any other accelerant to burn the tree.
The tree had been ceremonially lit during a network Christmas special on Sunday. The charred remains of the tree were being dismantled on Wednesday.
The reason behind burning the Christmas tree is not known yet.
