Dog with cancer rush to hospital, turns out it was four teddy bears it ate
A cute sick St Bernard dog had to undergo an operation as he managed to chew four soft teddy bears. The family was expecting cancer but it turned to be nothing but four soft toys he ate.
They feared of something worse could happen when vets noticed a mass on their pets spleen which came out after a CT scan report.
The sick dog Maisy also had a full stomach, which vets thought because of undigested food. However, it wasn't cancer but four stuffed teddy bears.
A surgery was required for this eight-year-old Maisy, at the Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield, England for her spleen to be removed. The owner Jane Dickinson was very worried but to everyone's surprise, the operation led to the bizarre discovery of her problem.
A CT scan report showed an unusually full stomach and a mass on her spleen, which led her vet to diagnose possible cancer.
Wakefield-based vet Nick Blackburn said,"this was not something we were expecting to find".
"We all know certain dogs enjoy chewing things they shouldn't but managing to devour four full teddy bears is quite a feat," said Mr. Blackburn.
Mr. Blackburn said Maisy had since made a full recovery from her operation and a histology report showed no sign of cancer.
"When Maisy went in I did think 'is she coming out?'," Dickinson said. “But she is loving life now – it’s like she’s got her youth back. The toys weren’t even hers. She will steal the chihuahuas’ toys and play with them but I’ve never seen her trying to chew them," said Mr. Blackburn.
“I know Jane was worried about Maisy as she is quite old for a St. Bernard, so we were naturally delighted the operation was such a success and we were able to return a happy, healthy dog to the Dickinsons," Blackburn added.
