Bizarre! Have you heard about wife stealing ceremony? Know where this weirdest marriage tradition follows
There are several wedding customs that have been followed worldwide and each religion, caste and country have different marriage traditions. But, there is a country where wife stealing tradition followed since ages.
Isn’t sound weird? Yes, it is.
In South Sudan’s eastern part in East Africa, there is a tribe named Latuka which lives in the mountainous region.
However, the people of Latuka or Otuho tribe generally farmers who were keeping large herds of cattle, sheep, and goat. Also, they used to do subsistence farming and grow crops like sorghum, maize, groundnuts, potato, and tubers.
Their belief and customs are quite different from the rest of the world, especially the wedding traditions which they have been followed since ages.
As in the Western world, when people decided to get married then, initially, they used to seek permission from their parents. Finally, after a lot of customs, the couple tied the nuptial knot.
But the wedding custom in Latuka tribe is quite different and very typical. When a man wants to marry a girl from Latuka tribe then he has to kidnap the girl from her home.
After this act, the groom goes to the girl’s father home along with his relatives to seek the blessing for the wedding.
Father has to respond with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If the father says yes and gives his blessing to the couple when he is expected to beat his son-in-law to show consent. In case, father says no then the man has the liberty to return the girl to her father’s house or can marry her, it’s all up to him.
