Shocking! 60-year-old woman dies while eating cake in competition
A woman had lost her life in Australia while taking participate in the contest on Sunday.
As per BBC reports said, the 60-year-old woman died when she was eating as many lamingtons as possible. The contest was organized in a hotel in Hervey Bay, Queensland, to mark Australia Day on January 26.
Reports suggested that she was crammed while eating one of the cakes into her mouth and then she got collapsed. However, CPR was given to her but she didn’t respond and later, taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
The event was filmed in which contestants were speed-eating the lamingtons, a traditional sponge cake covered in chocolate and desiccated coconut.
Footage also released in which other patrons of the pub were cheering for competitors, who have glasses of water next to them, before the fatal incident.
The Beach House Hotel in Hervey Bay also posted a condolence message to the family of the deceased on Facebook.
"We acknowledge and thank our supportive patrons, staff, and the Queensland Ambulance Service for their prompt and professional response while this tragic incident was unfolding," it said.
"The hotel staff has been offered professional support while our thoughts firmly remain with the family at this challenging time,” the post reads.
Eating competitions are a popular game during Australia Day, a national holiday marking the arrival of the first Europeans to Australia.
Contestants usually win prizes for eating as many cakes, pies, hot dogs or other food in a limited time.
