A Brazilian judge overruled an order passed for the immediate release of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
As per the New York Times, the incident took place on Sunday when appellate Judge Rogerio Favreto, who has ties to da Silva's leftist Workers' Party, ordered his release.
Later Federal Judge Sergio Moro blocked the release of former president and said the Favreto did not have the legal authority to urge the release
Following this appeal, court judge, Joao Pedro Gebran Neto, intervened and ordered the former President to remain in jail.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, better known as 'Lula', is serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption.
This surprising twist came before upcoming Brazil's presidential election, which is due in October.
