Trump visits California first time as President

News Agencies | Updated on: 14 March 2018, 8:22 IST

The United States President Donald Trump made his first presidential visit to California.

Air Force One landed at a marine corps air station in Miramar, outside San Diego, the Guardian reported.

He inspected prototypes of his proposed border wall at Otay Mesa, just yards from the border with Mexico.

Targeting the state's governor Jerry Brown, Trump told reporters that California Gov. Jerry Brown has "done a very poor job running California."

He further slammed the Democrat for immigration and tax policy adding that while he thought Brown was a "nice guy" but "has not done the job."

Trump also used the occasion to reiterate a line from his campaign, saying, "For the people that say no wall, if you didn't have walls over here, you wouldn't even have a country."

The last sitting president to go this long without traveling to California was Franklin Roosevelt -- and he took a train.

Trump lost the state by a wide margin in the 2016 presidential election and remains deeply unpopular there, according to the reports.
