A Muslim cleric and a senior student were arrested for allegedly raping a 9-year-old boy in a religious school in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Sunday, April 30, as reported by the Dawn.
The incident took place at Jamia Al-Habibiya seminary on the night of April 29 in the Khanewal district.
According to the Dawn, the child is a resident of Azizabad Basti and has been residing and studying at the seminary for last one year. When the child’s condition worsened, the cleric left his home, threatening him with dire consequences if he told anybody about the incident.
After seeing his condition, the victim’s uncle informed the police. The boy was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had been raped.
The boy told the police that he was gang-raped by his teacher and a senior student in the hujra of ‘Qari Sahib’.
Following the complaint, the police lodged a case and arrested both the suspects.
“Both the suspects were taken into custody from the seminary within two hours of the report,” Khanewal City Police SHO Saad Bin Saeed told the Dawn.
The 9-year-old’s condition is stable but he is suffering from mental and physical trauma. His mother was dead and his father is suffering from mental disorder.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
