North Korean mother likely to face jail after saving kids from house fire, not portraits of Kim ll-Sung and Kim Jong-il

A North Korean mother might be facing jail sentence for saving the lives of her two children from a house fire instead of saving the portraits of her country’s leaders.

The incident took place on 30th December 2019 when the fire erupted in a house where two families resided in Onsong County. The kids were inside the house while their parents were outdoors. Soon after they heard about the fire, they dashed towards the house to rescue their kids.

One of the mothers who failed to save the portraits of Kim ll-Sung and Kim jong-il is facing probe by the Minister of State Security for failing to save the portraits. The other family managed to protect their portraits from the fire.

North Korea commands that every house should lay out portraits of its ex-leaders, police are sent to make sure that the portraits are there in the house.

North Koreans who save the portraits of the Kim family from fires and flood are regard as heros, particularly if they die in the attempt, on the other hand, those who fail to do so face legal actions.

Since the mother who failed to save the porraits is facing probe, she has not been able to take care of her kids. She has also been unable to get antibiotics for them.

Neighbours of the family said they wanted to help but decided to steer away fearing that the woman might be charged with a political crime.

"The mother will be able to focus on caring for her children once the authorities end their investigation," the source said.
