A deadly shooting incident occurred at a Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant in southwestern Germany on May 11, resulting in the loss of two lives, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Following the shootout at Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, one person, a 53-year-old man, was arrested.

The factory is responsible for assembling Mercedes-Benz's S-Class model.

“A 53-year-old man entered the hall at about 7:45 am (05:45 GMT) and shot at two people,” Ludwigsburg police said in a statement. Both the victims (44) were succumbed to bullet injuries.

The accused man was detained in the plant's hall by the security staff, who later handed him over to the police.

According to a spokesperson from the Stuttgart prosecutor's office, investigators are probing the assumption that the incident was the act of a single man, and no other individuals are believed to be involved.

Mercedes-Benz released a statement confirming the death of two of its employees, stating that both the accused and the deceased were employees of an external service provider.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news from Sindelfingen this morning. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all colleagues on site,” Aljazeera quoted Mercedes-Benz’s statement.

According to Bild, daily newspaper, the suspect was an employee of a logistics company.

About 35,000 employees work at the Mercedes plant that produces S-Class and premium Maybach models

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
